Archaeology and the Bible

The accuracy of the Bible seen through Archaeology

Archaeology is the study of the way people lived in the past. During the last 100 years, many biblical cities that were previously buried in the sand have been discovered, such as Ur, Tyre, and Sodom. These discoveries prove the Bible gives a true history of places.

It also gives a true history of people - with King Jehu of Israel mentioned in 2 Kings 9 and also in an account carved in stone and discovered in Assyria.

To further state the claim of the Bible, in 1947, a Bedouin Arab found ancient scrolls in an earthenware jar in a cave. They were nearly 2,000 years old and included scrolls of nearly every Old Testament Book. These Dead Sea Scrolls confirm the ancient claim of the Scripture texts.

The accuracy of the New Testament has likewise been proven true by archaeology. An example of this is Herod's temple that dates back to the first century AD. Sections of this temple were discovered in 1871, with a limestone slab holding a warning to non-Jews entering the temple. This is an especially important find, as the evidence for the temple was thought to be non-existent.
