The Bible informs us that only God is able to foretell the future (Daniel 2:28). The prophets of the Bible, by inspiration from God, were able to forecast with absolute accuracy the future of many of the ancient nations. No-one else has been able to do that!
As predicted, Babylon is still in heaps (Jeremiah 51:37); Nineveh still lies empty (Nahum 2:10); Israel was scattered among the nations (Deuteronomy 28:64); Jerusalem was given over to non-Jews for almost 2,000 years (Luke 21:24) but today the Jews are returning and restoring the land (Ezekiel 36:24, Amos 9:14) exactly as foretold.
In Daniel 2, God caused Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon to have a dream. He saw a great image of a man. A stone smote the feet of the image which was broken and crushed - whereas the stone grew and filled the whole earth. Only Daniel could give God’s explanation of this dream. Starting with Nebuchadnezzar, the image represented a succession of world empires until the mixed and divided state of the world today. This is an accurate prophecy of world history which will be complete when the Lord Jesus Christ, as the stone power, returns to earth to setup God's kingdom.
The Bible is the only book that can predict future events with certainty. This is because the God of the Bible is also the controller of the nations (Daniel 4:25). Isaiah demonstrates God’s clear purpose for planet Earth (Isaiah 45:18), a purpose we will detail further in a coming article.
